THE GOD OF THE OLD TESTAMENT
Part 7: The Covenants of Promise |
|
|
The second covenant was initiated by God the Father
to restore humanity through the redemptive work of God the Son. It
was exclusive between God and God, making it flawless and
unbreakable. Humanity’s only role is accepting the salvation
provided by being born again. Jesus as the High Priest offered His
own sinless blood and entered heaven to obtain eternal redemption.
This new covenant is superior because it is mediated by the Son of
God. His sacrifice fulfilled and surpassed the old system, yet also
affirmed the authority of the Old Testament because Jesus only
fulfilled the sacrificial part of the Mosaic Law. The rest remains
as the expression of God’s character. The Law of Moses never saved
anyone, yet obedience reflects righteousness and reverence toward
God. Jesus is unchanging and His standards throughout the Bible are
consistent. |
