A STUDY ON THE HOLY SPIRIT
Part 14: Interpretation of Tongues (Languages) |
|
|
The interpretation of tongues is distinct from
translation because it comes supernaturally from the Holy Spirit.
You cannot prepare for it except to be baptized in the Holy Spirit
and wait for God to activate the gift. Pastor John recounted his
first such experience during a revival in Sweden. The Holy Spirit
prompted him to stand and deliver the interpretation after a message
in tongues. Though fearful, he obeyed and experienced the Spirit
speaking through him with power. This event deepened his awareness
of the Holy Spirit’s reality and authority. The gift of
interpretation operates jointly with the gift of tongues and is
essential for the church’s understanding and growth. While one
believer may occasionally perform both roles, the Holy Spirit
usually chooses two people – one to speak and another to interpret.
Operating in this gift is exciting because it means you are in God’s
will and He is choosing to use you for a specific purpose. |
