WHAT IS SPIRITUAL ADULTERY?
PART 4

John S. Torell

January 4, 2004

The New Testament is teaching that the relationship between Christ and his disciples is like a marriage. Jesus Christ is the Groom and the saved people are called the Bride of Christ. Revelation 19:1-9

Beginning with the early church as Jesus set it up, marriage was to be a sacred union between one man and one woman, and both of them were to be faithful to each other and not commit adultery. Matthew 5:27-32; 19:3-12

OBEDIENCE

When God created Lucifer, he was created as one of the most beautiful, talented, powerful, intelligent and wise angels. Ezekiel 28:11-15
No one enticed Lucifer to rebel against God, this was a thought process which was born in himself, after he became discontent with his position in life. Isaiah 14:12-14
Jesus states that Lucifer did not stay in the truth, but became the father of all lies. John 8:44

KEEPING YOUR DELIVERANCE

The Devil does not mind that a Christian reads his Bible, says his prayers and even worships the Lord God, The Christian can even state, "that he loves God with all his heart." All the Devil wants is a foothold, to pollute the purity of the Christian. The name of the game for the Devil is to snare the Christian, to make the Christian to become "SPIRITUALLY SLOPPY." I Timothy 4:1-2; II Peter 2:1-3

It was God who gave the land of Canaan to the children of Israel, but the question was, WERE THEY GOING TO BE ABLE TO KEEP IT?

IN OUR MARRIAGE TO CHRIST, DOES THE BRIDE HAVE ANY RESPONSIBILITY?

To fully understand this, let us first look at our salvation. What is involved?

In the Old Testament time salvation depended upon faith in God, that He was going to send a Messiah to the earth, and that this Messiah was going to pay the penalty of sin. Romans 4:1-25

The apostle Paul makes it extremely clear - Ephesians 2:1-18

Redemption is the sole work of God in Christ! Hebrews 9:11-26

Man can add nothing to this redemption, man’s responsibility is to receive it! John 1:9-14

When does a person receive eternal life? At the moment of the new birth or at the moment of death? I John 5:4-15

Can anyone take away a person’s salvation? John 10:23-30

According to the Apostle Paul, we are to build upon this salvation foundation. I Corinthians 3:11-15

There will be a judgment for Christians in the next life. II Corinthians 5:6-11

Paul calls this "working out our salvation." Philippians 2:9-16

What does Jesus expect from his bride? He has laid it out in the Book of Revelation:

  1. Don’t leave your first love! Revelation 2:1-7
  2. Don’t allow false doctrine to enter the church! Verses 12-17
  3. Don’t let anyone seduce you! Verses 18-29
  4. Strive to have your works perfect before the Lord - Revelation 3:1-6
  5. Be not lukewarm - Verses 14-22
