Book Review of Running Against the Wind by Brian Flynn

Reviewed by Carole West

January 30, 2006

Brian Flynn tells a moving story of his dark journey through the occult and New Age until the light of the Gospel was able to penetrate the darkness.

As a new Christian, he examined his past beliefs in the light of the Bible.  His descriptions are a valuable resource for Christians ministering to New Agers.  He found certain beliefs were common among all the different types of religions under the umbrella of New Age. Where do you stand on these issues?

  •  ·         Is “divinity” located within each person?  In our search for truth, will we find it in ourselves?

  • ·         Do all paths lead to God?

  •          Should individuals need to find their own “truth”, or is there only one absolute Truth?

  •

  • ·          Is God an impersonal Force, or is He personal?  Can God be both personal and impersonal?

  •

  • ·         Is the Bible reliable? Should we just pick the parts we find true in our experience, or are we responsible for all of it?

  •

  • ·         Should we be led by emotions and experiences or by the absolute truth proclaimed in the Bible?

Brian tells us what the Bible has to say about all these questions.

Brian Flynn is very grieved that so many of his brother and sisters in the Lord are opening the door to these New Age practices that are taking people away from the true Jesus unto another Jesus.  Brian says,

For many years I ran against the wind of God’s Spirit opposing the truth revealed in the Word of God.  Today, I would rather be running against the wind of false doctrine than be swept up in the fleeting emotions brought by unbiblical practices.”
