". . . And Deliver Us From Evil . . ."

Sermonette by Lois Amacher

Satan uses our senses, emotions and feelings to lure us into sins; sins of the mind, the soul and the flesh.

Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, tells us in Ephesians 6:10-18:

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"

Satan uses every medium of advertising; TV, Radio and print, to give us the message: "we don't want to be bored so we ought to find something to stimulate our fleshly appetites." If we succumb to these temptations we are led into lust, gluttony and covetousness. When a Christian sins, Satan puts a supernatural charge to the stimulation of the senses in order to totally ensnare the person.

We don't need to have our flesh stimulated if our spirit is alive to God. The Holy Spirit takes us to ecstasies the body cannot comprehend.

"Likewise reckon you also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield you your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: . ." Romans 6:11-13a
